Valentine’s Day Breakfast Charcuterie

Valentines Day Breakfast Charcuterie Board

Love is in the air. Especially with this Valentine’s Day Breakfast Charcuterie Board. It’s all things sweet and savory and I am just going to put it this out there, breakfast is the new dinner. Am I right?

Don’t just save this board for Valentine’s Day. Make this charcuterie board for Anniversaries, Bridal Showers, Girls Weekends & more!

Seriously though, if you haven’t figured out what you’re doing this Valentine’s Day then you really need to jump on the Valentine’s Day Breakfast Charcuterie board bandwagon. If you’re like me then you’re probably thinking okay, you had me at charcuterie. Honestly though, that should be a Hallmark Valentine’s Day card.

Before we get started on all things charcuterie, I feel like I need to be honest about something here. I have never really cared much for Valentine’s Day. Honestly, I never felt the need to make a big deal about it and if it went away completely I probably wouldn’t care. I should also say that I got married on Valentine’s Day. Confusing right?! Okay, now before your imagination starts to go wild and you picture some cheesy wedding with cinnamon hearts and chocolate everywhere, I’m going to stop you right there. We had none of that. It was actually a complete accident that we even booked it that day. We needed a Saturday in February and we wanted a long weekend that worked for both Canada and the US. Valentine’s Day just happened to be that Saturday. I did however have BBQ sauce fountain’s. It was a southern BBQ themed wedding with fried chicken, brisket, jumbo sized meatballs and more. It was all things Laila and all things amazing!!! Best wedding I have ever been to.

Valentine’s Day Reminds Me To Take A Minute

So if I don’t care for Valentine’s day then why did I do a Valentine’s Day Breakfast post? Because while I don’t care for Valentine’s Day, I do care for marriage. I know how important it is to invest in your spouse and to invest in your relationship. I also know that it’s really really hard to do these days. With work, and kids, and life, it can seem next to impossible to set aside time just for each other.  So, if society is going to set one day aside that reminds to take a minute and reflect on our relationships and marriage than I have to support that. Cue Valentine’s Day Breakfast Charcuterie now.

I love charcuterie. In fact I do it so much I have started using the word as a verb. Hi I’m Laila, would you like to charcuterie with me? Honestly though, the idea of sitting around and snacking on all kinds of yummy things is right up my alley, and creating these boards just gets me EXCITED. EVERYONE does the Valentine’s day dinner. We get it, its great. But why not mix it up a little and have a Valentine’s Day breakfast too? If you can’t get away from the kids, include them! My kids  actually loved eating this breakfast charcuterie board and it was a special treat to be able to do it together!

How To Make A Charcuterie Board

Making a charcuterie board is super easy. There really is no right or wrong way to do it. You just need a nice board and a variety of yummy things to put on it. Seriously, it’s that easy. For this Valentine’s Day Breakfast Charcuterie board I tried to keep with the theme of sweet and savory.

I knew when I started making this board that I had to include Belgian waffles and chocolate covered strawberries. It just sounded like love to me. I have never made chocolate covered strawberries before, but when I saw how outrageously expensive they were, I was definitely going to learn to make them. I’m SO glad I did because they were SO EASY!!! Full disclosure, the first batch I made my toddler ate when I was in the other room, and the second batch I made I set the microwave on fire because I left the chocolate in to long. But hey, I promised to always keep it real with you and if you can avoid those two mishaps you’ll be fine.

How To Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Start with some fresh strawberries. Wash them and dry them really well. You’ll want to make sure the leaves are nice and green.

Next, line a baking sheet with some wax paper. Place a cup or two of semi sweet chocolate chips into a small, fairly deep microwave safe bowl and melt the chocolate. It’s best to go in 20-30 second intervals depending on your microwave. I take it out, stir it and place it back in for 20 seconds at a time.

Grab a strawberry and dip it into the melted chocolate, kinda rolling it around to coat it evenly then hold it over the bowl twirling it a bit to get the excess chocolate off. Place it onto your baking sheet to set and voila, chocolate covered strawberries!

Valentine’s Day Breakfast Idea’s

Like I said, you can pretty much include anything on the board and it’s acceptable but here’s what I put on mine ♥

Belgian Waffles

I used these Oakrun  Belgian Waffles that I got at Costco because A.  I was constrained for time and B. their Belgian Waffles are delicious but if you’d rather make your own this is my FAVE waffle recipe!

Chocolate Covered Bacon

Yes, you heard that right. Chocolate covered bacon.  Honestly, I didn’t start out to include it but I had some chocolate leftover from the strawberries and my husband suggested it. I’m SO glad he did because it honestly took the board to the next level. I dipped half the bacon in chocolate and then sprinkled it with sea salt. It was the PERFECT addition to this Valentine’s Day charcuterie board and I’m telling you, chocolate covered bacon can put any man in the mood.

Fresh Fruit

I’ve already went into detail about the need for chocolate covered strawberries but I also wanted to include some fresh fruit. I opted for raspberries and blueberries because they are A. pretty and B. easy to eat and I also included some of my famous canned peaches that I made this past summer to give the board a pop of color.

Deviled Eggs

I knew when I started out making this breakfast board that I wanted to include eggs on it. You can really have them anyway and the board will still look good but I opted to go with deviled eggs because I felt like they were a bit fancier and took the board up a notch!

Fresh Pastries

I feel like you really need to include some fresh pastries. There were no shortage of valentines themed donuts and cookies around and honestly I just couldn’t resist. I went with cinnamon buns as well because lets be honest, they are life.

Yogurt

I added a bowl of yogurt to the board as well just to have some lighter options. It was actually really good paired with the fruit and I think the board would’ve been too heavy without it!

Macaroons

I honestly don’t this breakfast charcuterie board would have come out as pretty as it did without these macaroons. I LOVE them!!! Now let me just take a minute to say that there is no way I could’ve made these macs. And the ONLY place I will ever get my macs from is Love and Sugar Bake Shop.  Steph is seriously one of the most talented people I know and her macaroons are LIFE. If you have not eaten one of her macaroons yet then you need to stop what you’re doing right now and go and get one. Eating one (or 5) is like therapy for the soul.

Valentine’s Day Breakfast

Serve this breakfast board with two big glasses of prosecco and some coffee with 40 creek cream liquor (my fave!!) and watch the world fade away. If you can get your hands on the Nanaimo forty creek then do it. It is so good.

You can also make this board for Anniversaries, Bridal Showers, Bachelorette parties and more!

Don’t just save all the breakfast charcuterie love for Valentine’s Day. These boards would be SUPER cute for a girls weekend breakfast, an anniversary celebration or even a bridal shower brunch.

Alright, now that you have all the Valentine’s Day Breakfast inspiration you need, go out and create your own! As always I love to hear from you and I LOVE to see your creations. Upload your pictures on social media using #thegoodwivesblog and invite me into your kitchen
